Margaret A. (“Peggy”) Thompson proudly serves as Chair of the Leadership Team at Friends of Orange County Detainees. Founded in 2012, FOCD is a humanitarian aid organization whose volunteers have made over 10,000 individual visits to men and women being detained by ICE and held in Orange County jail facilities and at the ICE Processing Center in Adelanto. Since 2015, FOCD has also provided post release transition services, picking up over 350 asylum seekers at point of release and providing food, clothing, cell phones, temporary housing and assistance with transportation arrangements to safely reach family, sponsor, or another safe place. Ms Thompson has also worked closely with volunteers, legal clinics and pro bono law firms to connect detainees with available legal resources.
Ms. Thompson received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California at Berkeley and has been a resident of Irvine for the past 43 years. Since her retirement from a career in corporate real estate, she has learned to speak Spanish and devoted herself to trying to do what she can to ease the path for migrants navigating the U.S. immigration system. Ms. Thompson was honored in 2016 by the LGBTQ Center OC for her support of the Latina transgender community, and in 2017 by Women For: Orange County for her work with FOCD.
